The boy was loitering around, drunk,
It was half past midnight, the cold air gave little solace.
The silence was deadly, even the dogs too scared to bark.

The girl had missed her bus, how sorry she would be,
For she had to walk home, alone, not a soul in sight.
She was cold, terrified, a million thoughts racing through her mind,
Oh, how she wished to be in her comforting house right now!

She saw the boy, walking towards her,
A college drop out maybe, spoiled, she thought.
She walked past him, quickly, without even looking,
She could feel his prying eyes checking her out.

He saw her, hormones instantly taking over his brain,
He started following her, with newfound lust in his eyes.
She quickened her pace, walking turned to running,
Following turned to chasing.

There was a fork ahead, she turned right,
Such is the irony of life, right was anything but right.
That very turn could change her life, or end it,
It was a dead end.

She turned to go back, and saw the menacing silhouette blocking the path,
She could feel him grinning, tears streamed down her face.
He advanced slowly- a predator closing down on its prey,
He was enjoying this, but, there was more to come!

He was in front of her, he could see the terror in her eyes,
She looked shocked, pleading him to stop.
The slap totally caught him off guard, he reeled back,
He was blind with rage, his bruised ego got the better of him.

He lurched forwards, an angry bull charging towards the matador,
He caught her delicate soft hands, hands that were meant to love.
He forced himself on her, her hands pinned under his,
There was no where to run, even the wall behind her was against her.

He bit her lips, hard, moving onto her neck,
Her screams ripped through the stillness of the night.
There was no one to help, deaf ears everywhere,
Wasnt the world very unfair?

A thin fabric, was all that protected her virginity,
Irony? Of all, the lying politicians, the people vowing to protect women against rape, a piece of fabric doing better?
He not only ripped her clothes, also her dignity with it,
There she was, naked, the cold wind feeling her up.

He couldn't be aroused by this! But his male hardness said 'nother story.
He thrust inside her, her blood curdling screams muffled by the night.
Blinded by lust, he was enjoying every moment of this, she was so soft,
He was satisfied, his seed, forcibly planted.

He zipped up, giving the battered body, one last look, smiled, and left.
A beautiful girl once she was, a bloody mess now she had become.
She watched him leave, she had no strength to scream,
She was bleeding, bruised, violated.

This wasnt meant to happen! She was so happy a few seconds ago, celebrating her promotion,
"Do you want me to drop you home?"
"No, its a long way, I'll catch a bus."
The words resonated in her mind, filled with regret. Maybe the last thing to regret about.

The cold night showed little mercy on her naked skin,
What had she done to go through this?
She was exhausted, humiliated,
The vice grip of the night tightened,
She'd given in, and closed her eyes.

His mother had heard the shot, she ran to his room,
And screamed.

He'd come home late at night, satisfied with his doings,
He wasnt able to sleep though, something was eating him alive.
His mother had brought him a warm glass of milk, stroked his hair and kissed him goodnight,
His head had exploded into a million pieces, the reality dawned upon him.

What if something like that happened to his mom? To his sister?
The girl might've been someone's mom, sister, wife, girlfriend,
She must've loved someone, cared for them, and what had he done?!

Suddenly, his father had come in, and burst into tears,
He hadnt seen the old man crying since he could remember.
"What hap-"
"Its your sister!", he'd cried, "she was found dead, raped."

His father left, attending the police downstairs,
His head began to swerve.
He walked to his closet, pulled out his father's revolver,
"Forgive me", were his last words, before he put the gun to his temple,
And fired.
